Sustainability
Landfills are sophisticated infrastructure facilities that efficiently contain waste
managing the decomposition of organic waste. This process naturally produces biogas—a greenhouse gas. Instead of allowing it to escape, our designs focus on capturing and converting it into a valuable resource in lieu of
using fossil gas.
-
From Waste to Power: A network of specialized wells collects the biogas, which can be used as fuel to generate electricity or as a clean energy source for distribution. The result is a resilient and localized power source for communities of various sizes.
-
Power to Commercial benefit. The power generated allows for continued community development.
From Liabilities to Assets: Land Redevelopment
A closed landfill is no longer an abandoned site; it's a blank slate for
redevelopment.
-
Sustainable infrastructure: As historic landfills fall out of post closure and the urban interface with these sites grows closer; the landfill can transform its use in the community for a variety of community needs from additional community infrastructure to open space to recreation areas.
-
Redevelopment Challenge: Develop the facility into value added benefit within the allowable local and state restrictive covenants. This is done through a value added entitlement process and understanding community development needs.
A Future-Focused Approach
-
Supported by regulatory bodies like the U.S. EPA and its Superfund Redevelopment Initiative (SRI), Superfund bona fide prospective purchaser, and the regulatory shift will allow future site development with once were historical. Landfill solutions redefine these sites as assets for environmental stewardship, economic growth, and community development.
